Trains to Shotts

Shotts railway station is used by Shotts, a little town roughly half way between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It was opened in the second half of the 19^th century by the then Caledonian Railway along the Cleand and Midcalder Line. The two-platform station, now managed by Abellio ScotRail, might look small, but it serves more than 200,000 passengers annually. There’s a ticket office open until the early afternoons Monday to Saturday. Outside these hours, passengers are required to buy their tickets in advance or using the station’s self-service machines. There’s a train every 30 minutes during peak hours to Glasgow Central taking 1 hour 21 minutes and eastbound to Edinburgh in 1 hour 42 minutes.

It might be small, but there’s several things that make a trip to Shotts worthwhile. If you’re interested in history, don’t miss catching a glimpse of the old brick ironworks. Alternatively, take your clubs up to swing them along the challenging fairways dotted with sandy bunkers.
