Trains to Shanklin

Shanklin train station is the terminus of the Island Line that starts in Ryde and the only route left on the Isle of Wight. It was opened in the second half of the 19th-century and extended some two decades later. Unlike many British stations, the original brick buildings are still intact and are now Grade II listed. Today, the station and the trains that pass through are managed by Island Line and passengers can use the interchange to hop on buses out to St Lawrence. There's a ticket office open every day, though passengers can buy tickets with the conductor on board the train when it's closed. It might be small with just a single platform, but that doesn’t stop it serving more than 300,000 passengers annually. There are two departures an hour direct to Ryde Pier Head, with an approximate journey time of 24 minutes.

When you disembark at Shanklin, you’ll be just a few moments from the long stretch of shingle beach backed by a pretty esplanade teeming with cafes, waterfront restaurants and cosy B&Bs. If you have some time, visit the Rylstone Tea Gardens where the kids can play crazy golf and parents can enjoy a traditional afternoon tea.
