Trains to Ryde Pier Head

One of the only train stations in the world to be situated at the end of a wooden pier, Ryde Pier Head train station makes up one of three Ryde stations on the Isle of Wight. A popular choice with visitors looking to use the nearby Wightlink catamaran ferry service to the mainland, the station was opened in the late-19th-century and features a single platform. From that platform, Island Line services are operated under South Western Railway. There's a ticket office open all week and self-service ticket machines are available to customers, though there's very little else in the way of facilities. Two trains depart every hour from Ryde Pier Head to stations through to Shanklin on the south coast of the island, with an approximate journey time of 32 minutes.

Other than the glorious views over the glittering ocean from the pier’s wooden boardwalks, the only reason to take the train all the way to the end of the pier is to catch the ferry service back to the mainland. If you’re looking to explore the coastline, the proceeding station, Ryde Esplanade, might be a better choice.
