Ryde Esplanade railway station sits along the seafront in the town of Ryde on the northern coast of the Isle of Wight and makes up part of the Ryde Transport Interchange. It was originally opened in the mid-19th century with a horse-drawn tram service taking holidaymakers along to the newly built Ryde Pier. Several decades later, it was replaced with a railway line and station. Today, the station with its single platform and the trains that pass through are managed by Island Line. It might be small, but it serves more than 300,000 people every year. There is an onsite ticket office open every day and self-service ticket machines. When you disembark here, you’ll find buses departing from the adjoining Ryde Bus Station. There are twice hourly direct service calling at all stations to Shanklin in 21 minutes.
When you step off the train at Ryde, you’ll be right next to the Esplanade where you’ll find all the retro trappings of British seaside resort like funfairs, waterside pools and bowling alleys, the perfect place to bring the kids. Alternatively, the nearby The Donald McGill Museum is well worth some time to discover.
