Ruabon railway station lies on the southern outskirts of Wrexham and serves as both the rail and bus interchange stop. The station was constructed in the mid-18th century in a neo-Tudor style using locally sourced honey-coloured limestone making it one of the most attractive in the country. It’s been an unstaffed station since the mid ‘70s and there are no facilities for buying tickets, so passengers must buy them online in advance or on board the train with the conductor. Today, the station has two platforms which are managed, along with the trains that pass through, by Arriva Trains Wales and is an important stop along the Shrewsbury to Chester Line. There is at least one direct train an hour to Wrexham General in 6 minutes and Shrewsbury in 29 minutes.
Ruabon might be small, but you’ll find there’s plenty to do near the station including several decent sized parks, a handful of cosy Welsh pubs within walking distance and the slides and rides at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre.
