Rotherhithe is a station in the London Borough of Southwark in the south-east of the capital. It sits alongside the East London Line that follows the banks of the River Thames and is managed along the with the trains that pass through by National Rail London Overground serving more than a million passengers annually. The station was opened in the late-19th century after the opening of a small section of line by the East London Railway. Over the years, the station has gone through several remodels, the biggest in the late ‘90s when the original entrance was moved. It has two stations accessed from street level by either escalators or steps and a ticket office open during daytime hours, though an Oyster travelcard can be used. There are up to eight trains an hour to Highbury and Islington taking 22 minutes and two to three an hour southbound to New Cross in 8 minutes.
There’s a ton of things to do near the station when you arrive. You could admire the Swan Road Mosaic Mural, amble around the historic engine house now home to the Brunel Museum or score tickets for one of the productions at the London Bubble Theatre Company.
