Rose Grove railway station lies just west of Burnley in the heart of Lancashire and was opened in the mid-19th century. It once had several lines pass through, but it declined in importance during the second half of the 20th century and it was reduced to just two platforms centred around an island. Like most British stations these days, it became unstaffed during the ‘80s when the original brick station buildings were torn down in favour of a more basic layout and cheaper services. There is therefore no ticket office, though there are self-service ticket machines in use. Other facilities include waiting shelters, digital passenger information displays and bench seating. The station and the trains that pass through are managed and run by Northern. There is hourly direct service to Preston in 51 minutes and Colne in 20 minutes.
When you disembark at Rose Grove, you’ll find plenty of things to do near the station including green parks, old churches and restaurants. If you have an interest in historical monuments, don’t miss the Miners Seat Memorial, while sports fans should catch one of the summer matches at the Lowerhouse Cricket Club.
