Trains to Redcar Central

Redcar Central railway station is the main station in the North Yorkshire coastal town of Redcar. It was opened in the mid-19^th century originally as Middlesbrough & Redcar Railway with just one platform, but it was extended in the 20^th century. Interestingly, the station’s two platforms are not opposite each other with one slightly further up the line than the other. The pretty old brick train shed is still intact and has been converted into business units. Today, the busy station, which sees a footfall of around 350,000 people annually, and the trains that pass through are managed and run by Northern. The station is staffed with a ticket office that opens between Monday and Saturday in the mornings and early afternoon. There’s also an electronic ticket machine, a waiting room on both sides of the tracks, bench seating, and digital displays with passenger information. There are two to three trains an hour direct to Middlesbrough in 13 minutes and several direct services a day to Durham in 1 hour 8 minutes.

You won’t be short on things to do when you disembark at Redcar Central. Redcar beach is just a few minutes walk away where you can stretch out on the sand or splash around in the water. Alternatively, you could catch one of the concerts at the historic Redcar Bandstand, take the kids to the Playland Amusements or visit the Zetland Lifeboat Museum and Redcar Heritage Centre.
