Situated on the electrified Liverpool to Wigan Line, Prescot train station opened in 1871 and serves the town of Prescot, eight miles to the east of Liverpool. The town is famous as the site of the Prescot Playhouse, a purpose-built Shakespearean theatre which dates from the 1590s, and its watch and clock-making industries of the 18th and 19th Century.
Train services between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan North Western are provided by Northern, with trains running every half an hour. The journey time to Liverpool Lime Street is 22 minutes. Prescot train station has a staffed ticket office located at the entrance to platform 1. Step free access is available from the carpark to the Wigan-bound platform 1; access to the Liverpool bound platform 2 can be made either via the footbridge or the private estate on the nearby Hays Avenue. Local bus connections can be found nearby on Bridge Road.
Prescot station is also the nearest station to Knowsley Safari Park, it's north-west of the station, around a 25-minute walk away.
