Trains to Portsmouth & Southsea

Portsmouth & Southsea train station opened originally in 1847. It is the main station for the City of Portsmouth, located close to the Commercial Road shopping district. Train services from this station are provided by South Western Railway, Southern, and Great Western Railway. The typical Monday to Saturday Off-Peak service provided by South Western Railway is eight trains per hour travelling to London Waterloo, Portsmouth Harbour, and Southampton Central. Southern provide Off-Peak services of three trains per hour to London Victoria, Littlehampton, Brighton, and Portsmouth Harbour and Great Western Railway provides two trains per hour to Cardiff Central and Brighton. The fastest journey time to London Waterloo is 1 hour and 35 minutes.

The station and its platforms are split into upper and lower levels, with stairs and a lift connecting the two. Platforms 1 and 2 on the upper level have an island layout to allow for through trains to Portsmouth Harbour. Platforms 3 and 4 are arranged in a bay configuration on the ground floor. A ticket office is located on the ground floor and ticket machines are also available for purchasing or collecting tickets. Portsmouth and Southsea train station also has toilets, shops, and refreshment kiosks.

A taxi rank can be found out the front of the station on Commercial Road. Hovertravel run a bus connection service to the Southsea Common terminal for hovercraft services to the Isle of Wight.
