Ponders End train station backs on to park land around King George's Reservoir and the beautiful Lea Valley, which runs through the north-London suburb in Travel Zone 5. The area’s off-kilter charm marries old industrial London on one side of the station to beautiful areas of greenery on the other. Ten miles north of London Liverpool Street, the mainly residential area played host to a number of events at the 2012 London Olympic Games at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, 17 minutes' walk from the station, which continues to draw international athletes for training. The Games legacy also left an Olympic-quality multi-sport gym at Ponders End Recreation Ground, an eight-minute walk from the station.
Trains on the Lea Valley Line pull into the revamped 1890 station. Regular services operate in both directions, toward London Liverpool Street to the south from platform 1, and north to Hertford East and Bishop Stortford from platform 2.
