Patchway train station serves Patchwork and Stoke Gifford, both dormitory suburbs of Bristol. It first opened in 1863, and was rebuilt in 1855 at a slightly different location and with a different name: ‘Patchway & Stoke Gifford’. The name changed back to Patchway in 1908. The original station buildings and former goods yard have since been demolished and the original site of the station is now marked with a boulder and information board.
Today, Patchway train station is part of the South Wales Main Line and is managed by Great Western Railway, which also provides the train services that stop here. There are two platforms with small brick built shelters, connected by a footbridge and steps over the line. Trains from Patchway station travel to Cardiff Central and Taunton, with one train in each direction departing hourly. Early morning and evening services differ and Sundays see a reduced service with just one train every three hours. The fastest direct services from Patchway station to Cardiff Central take 37 minutes. Bristol Temple Meads is a 12 minutes journey.
