Padgate train station serves the Padgate area of Warrington. The station is located 14 miles west of Manchester Oxford Road, on the Liverpool to Manchester Line, in the old Padgate centre. The newer commercial area, known by locals as ‘Padgate shops’, is around three quarters of a mile away. During World War II the area was home to a RAF station; today the site holds a housing estate.
Trains operated by Northern depart every hour on weekdays. Busy peak times see extra services but there are no trains at all on Sundays. Popular direct services from Padgate train station travel to Manchester Oxford Road, with a fastest journey time of 27 minutes, and Liverpool Lime Street, in a time of 39 minutes. The station is unstaffed, with two basic platforms connected by a footbridge. There are no ticket facilities; journeys need to be purchased in advance or paid for on the train. There are seats for waiting passengers and the station building also houses a fish and chip shop.
