Northfield Railway Station borders the Northfield and West Heath areas of Birmingham and sees frequent West Midlands Trains services operating on the Cross-City Line. Trains from Northfield run roughly every ten minutes during weekday daytimes, up to every ten minutes but no more than every 20 minutes in the evenings, and every thirty minutes on Sundays. Although there are four-track lines passing through the station, the island platform in the centre is abandoned, so all trains serving Northfield use platforms 1 or 4.
A small car park is located near the station, and Birmingham bus routes 19 and 27 stop nearby. Northfield Station has a staffed ticket office and self-service ticketing machines from which the full range of fares may be purchased; additionally, train running information is provided via updates on digital display boards and pre-recorded announcements over the station PA system. There is step-free access to the ticket office and platform 1 (for trains toward Birmingham). Platform 4 has step-free access via a lift.
