Located just north of Ipswich, Needham Market train station serves the town of Needham Market with regular Greater Anglia trains operating on the Great Eastern Main Line. Trains from Needham Market operate once an hour between Cambridge northbound from platform 1 and the Ipswich terminus immediately southbound from platform 2.

Now in private use, Needham Market’s main railway building is a Grade II-listed structure. A station car park and set of bicycle stands are provided for customer use ahead of travel. As there are no ticketing provisions, tickets must be purchased ahead of time or on board from a guard. Display boards provide train-running information. A permanent brick waiting shelter with bench seating is installed on platform 2, and there's an open-air bench near the customer help point located on platform 1. There's step-free access to platform 1 (for Cambridge) from the car park and road only.
