Lying in the Berkshire countryside close to the village of Stratfield Mortimer, Mortimer Railway Station sees regular trains operated by Great Western Railway on the Reading to Basingstoke Line. Local trains from Mortimer serve all stations on the line, generally every half hour in each direction during the week and once an hour on Sundays. Some fast CrossCountry services pass through without stopping.
The Grade II-listed Italianate railway buildings originally designed by engineering giant Isambard Kingdom Brunel are still in use today and are the only surviving examples of a once-popular design. The staffed ticket office and waiting area lie on the up platform (for Reading), and a matching permanent waiting room is on the down platform (for Basingstoke). A car park and cycle storage are provided for passenger use, and toilet facilities are installed within the booking hall. Step-free access is available to up platform 2 for Reading only
