The Victorian brick buildings of Mitcham Junction station are surrounded by greenery, as passengers arrive on the doorstep of Mitcham Golf Club. The station opened in 1868, and today regular services from Mitcham Junction include trains to London Victoria, Epsom, Sutton and St Albans via Blackfriars. Mitcham Junction is also on Route 3 of the Tramlink network that crosses south London between Addington and Wimbledon.
Mitcham Junction is over a mile south of Mitcham centre, and is closer to the Mitcham Green area of the district and the nearby neighbourhood of Beddington Corner. The station is just south of Mitcham Common, and lies to the east of the River Wandle and the Watermeads Nature Reserve. The latter was only opened to the public in 2015, and offers nature walks through a landscape hidden from the public for over a century. Also nearby is Mitcham Cricket Green, which is said to have been in use since 1685.
