Melton station lies on the Ipswich to Lowestoft East Suffolk Line, serving the village of Melton in Suffolk. The station originally opened in 1859 before closing - seemingly for good - in 1955. However, after much public pressure the station was given a new lease of life 1984. Since then, Melton has operated regular hourly services to both Ipswich and Lowestoft from its single platform. The station is just outside the quaint village centre, which is home to a colourful mix of independent shops and stunning 18th century architecture. Look out for St. Andrew's church, which looks over the town from Station Road and hosts a number of cultural and social events throughout the year. For a pleasant local walk, head to the footpaths along the River Deben - turn right out of the station and look out for the Melton Riverside car park, just a few minutes' walk away.
You won't have any trouble finding your way around Melton station, though you'll find it difficult to buy a ticket - the small station is entirely unstaffed, with no ticket facilities at all. Buy one from the guard on the train if you haven't bought in advance. The single platform has secure bike storage, bench seating and a customer help point, and there's a taxi rank and a bus stop right outside the station.
