North of Cardiff, Llanishen railway station is a station on the Rhymney Line, a commuter rail line running through the Rhymney Valley to Cardiff Central. Trains run to Penarth via Cardiff Central every 20 minutes and take around 28 minutes. In the other direction, trains run from Llanishen station every hour to Rhymney and take around 50 minutes. From Cardiff Central, it is possible to connect to major cities including London, Bath, Gloucester, Nottingham and Manchester. 

Llanishen is classed as a suburb of Cardiff and it takes around 15 minutes to reach the centre of the city by car. As well as two Victorian reservoirs, there is a golf club, skate park, rugby club, several pubs and a nature reserve nearby.
