When the railway arrived in Lee in 1866, the mostly rural area saw rapid expansion, with many well-to-do Londoners relocating here for a slice of country life within easy reach of the capital. The town as we know it today was completed by the start of WW1, and many Victorian and Edwardian townhouses remain. Today the area is popular with young professionals and families, and has good links into London - trains reach London Bridge in 13 minutes, and nearby Lewisham offers Docklands Light Railway services. Lee's main retail hub is a ten-minute walk from the station, and is full of interesting independent businesses, from musical instrument shops and to small cafes. Local landmarks include the St Margaret of Antioch church, which has an impressive gothic interior, and the nearby Manor House Garden, a pleasant green space with a lake. As for culture, the Hither Green Community Association regularly organises film and music nights at the nearby Hither Green Hall.

Station details & facilities

Lee's main entrance is on the south side, just off Burnt Ash Road. Here you'll find the ticket office, a ticket machine and bike racks, and access to platform 1 (towards London). Toilets are out on the platform, and a stepped subway leads over to platform 2 (towards Woolwich and Gravesend). For step-free access to platform 2, cross the level crossing on Burnt Ash Road and turn right down Glenmere Row.
