Laurencekirk Railway Station serves the small town of Laurencekirk and the historic county of The Mearns in Aberdeenshire with regular ScotRail service on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen Line. Trains from Laurencekirk depart hourly in both directions, with trains departing platform 2 for Aberdeen directly north and trains departing platform 1 for southbound services to both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Initially closed as a cost-saving measure in 1967, Laurencekirk Station was reopened in 2009 after a full refurbishment. Additional improvements, including greater service frequencies and an Aberdeen commuter service, are planned from 2018. The station now has a car park, storage for 24 bicycles, self-service ticket machines from which tickets may be either purchased or collected, and digital display screens with automated announcements that provide train running information. Waiting rooms are installed on both platforms with bench seating; a customer help point is installed on platform 1. There is ramped access to both platforms.
