In the heart of the London Borough of Lewisham and under thirty minutes to the centre of London, it is no surprise Hither Green is a busy commuter station. Over three million passenger journeys start or end on one of the 300 trains each weekday that head mainly to or from Charing Cross and London Bridge, Victoria and Gatwick Airport. What might be more surprising, though, is the peaceful, safe village feel lauded by residents and visitors alike.
With its friendly community spirit, east of Hither Green station is Staplehurst Road's pretty parade of shops in well-kept Edwardian buildings. A seven-minute stroll along the tree-lined streets takes you to award-winning Manor House Gardens, a lively park, which could make you forget you're in a London suburb with its lake, walled flower garden, playground and weekly farmers market. West of the station, a ten-minute walk ends at Mountsfield Park, the largest of Hither Green's three parks.
