The smaller of Helensburgh’s two stations, Helensburgh Upper serves the surrounding residential area of Helensburgh with Abellio ScotRail services operating on the West Highland Line. Six trains from Helensburgh Upper operate each way—three to Oban only and three to Oban, Fort William, and Mallaig. Six trains run to Glasgow Queen Street. On Sundays, these services drop to three in each direction. The Caledonian Sleeper service between London Euston and Fort William also calls at the station.
Those travelling from Helensburgh Upper may stow their cycles in the stands provided. There are no ticketing provisions of any kind at Helensburgh Upper; passengers wishing to travel should purchase their tickets prior to travel or on board the train from a guard. A permanent waiting shelter is provided on the platform alongside a customer help point and bench seating. Access to the platform is via a steep ramp that may pose difficulty for unassisted wheelchair users.
