Built in 1837, Hartford station serves the small village of Hartford, in Cheshire. Hartford's station buildings stood in their original state for over 100 years, until they were given a major upgrade in the 1960s - a full refurbishment followed in early 2011, leaving the modern station trains arrive at today. Much of its traffic comes from Liverpool-bound commuters, who can reach Lime Street in the heart of the city in a little over 30 minutes. Birmingham is also within easy reach, with southbound trains reaching New Street station in about an hour and 10 minutes. The town is mostly residential, but has a small cluster of shops around St John's church, about half a mile east of the station along Chester Road. They're mainly small local businesses, including florists, cafes, and a traditional pub across the road from the church. You'll find another pub right opposite the station - handy if you're in for a long wait.

Station details & facilities

Hartford station is just off Chester Road, by the railway bridge. It's below street level, with ramps on either side of the bridge leading down to the two platforms. Platform 1 (towards Birmingham) is on the car park side, and has a ticket office and public toilets. Platform 2 can be reached via a footbridge, or the ramp off Chester Road - but be aware that the step-free route is long, especially if you're coming from the car park.
