Gainsborough Central train station is one of two stations in the town of Gainsborough. This station was opened in 1849 and was the first operating station in the town, yet this is the smaller of the two and provides only three train services weekly. These services all run on a Saturday. Please note that there are no trains at this station from Sunday to Friday. However, due to a new operator agreement, from December 2018 there will be a regular hourly service from Gainsborough central station to Sheffield on Weekdays and Saturdays.

This station is located on the Brigg branch of the Sheffield to Lincoln line and operations are managed by Northern. This service terminates eastbound at Cleethorpes and westbound at Sheffield. Both platforms have shelters and have step-free access via the ramp at the end of the platform. Additionally, there is a footbridge which links the two platforms.
