The seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea is located on the Sunshine Coast Line, which links Walton-on-the-Naze with Colchester and onward fast connections to London Liverpool Street. The station opened in 1867 and was famous for its wooden level crossing gates, which were only replaced by a modern barrier system in 2009. The development of the town as a seaside resort came with the railway and the building of its golf course in the 1890s.
The main shopping street in Frinton-on-Sea is Connaught Avenue, which runs south from the station for about half a mile until it hits the Esplanade and the greensward, which stands between the town's houses and the beach and promenade. On Connaught Avenue, you will find the main selection of cafes, bars and restaurants in the town. The seafront of Frinton runs between the golf club to the south and the neighbouring resort of Walton-on-the-Naze to the north.
