The current Fitzwilliam train station was built in 1982, just north of the previous station that was situated in the village. The station has two platforms, with direct routes to large cities including Leeds and Doncaster. With the station unstaffed there is not a ticket office available, but passengers can buy tickets from the ticket machine at Fitzwilliam. Access to both platforms is via ramps, each platform has a shelter, and the station also offers a car park for those travelling from Fitzwilliam.

There is a regular service to Leeds from the station with two trains arriving per hour and the fastest journey time taking 26 minutes. On a Sunday this service drops to one train per hour. Getting to the city of Doncaster will take around 25 minutes from Fitzwilliam, there are direct routes available each hour, however, a change may need to be made at Swinton (South Yorks) depending on which service you take.
