Trains to Earlestown

One of Britain’s two remaining triangular stations, Earlestown Railway Station supplies Earlestown, Merseyside, with regular train services. Northern, who also manage the station, provide trains along the Liverpool to Manchester Line; Arriva Trains Wales services operate through the station on the Chester to Manchester line. Most services operate hourly. Northern trains from Earlestown include services to Manchester Victoria and Airport from platform 1, to Liverpool Lime Street (originating at Manchester) via St Helens Junction from platform 2, and bi-directional services between Warrington Bank Quay and Liverpool from platform 3. Platform 4 is served with Arriva Trains Wales services to Manchester Piccadilly and Airport; platform 5 is served by Arriva Trains Wales services to Chester and Llandudno via Warrington and Helsby. On Sundays, services here operate between Lime Street-Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly-Chester only.

Earlestown Station’s unique triangular shape represents the oldest junction in the world between passenger railways, and the waiting room on the Liverpool-bound platform is the oldest station building in the world still in active use. Tickets may be purchased from the manned booking hall off platform 1; shelters, bench seating, and customer help points are present on all platforms.
