An island halt nestled in the Dyfi National Nature Reserve, Dovey Junction train station serves as a main junction point for the Cambrian Line in Powys, only a short distance from the meeting point of the counties Ceredigion, Powys, and Gynedd. Trains from Dovey Junction call at least every two hours in both directions during the week. In morning and afternoon peak periods, this service increases to become hourly. Trains from Dovey Junction depart from the south side of the platform (platform 1) for Borth and Aberystwyth and use the north side (platform 2) for coastal services to Barmouth and Pwllheli. On Sundays, service is two-hourly between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth.

Dovey Junction station has basic facilities, including departure and arrival screens, automated announcements, payphones, staff help points, a waiting shelter, and bench seating. Access to the platform is via ramp, however, the station is not suitable for wheelchair users as the access path is unsurfaced and prone to flooding. Passengers requiring additional facilities should travel from Machynlleth.
