Like many others, the wealthy West Midlands village of Dorridge grew up around the railway. Its sprawling houses, long drives and large gardens have attracted many of the region's best-known faces, from Jasper Carrott and his daughter Lucy Davis (of The Office) to a significant number of footballers and musicians.
The station is served by both London Midland and Chiltern Railways, offering routes to Kidderminster, Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone. It's a perfect gateway to town - passengers step straight from its platforms into the collection of small independent shops that make up the centre of Dorridge. One of its most long-standing businesses is the Railway Inn, a 15-minute walk from the station - it's a traditional pub that has been in the same family for a century. And for those who'd like to venture a little further, about two miles south of town is Packwood House, a restored Tudor mansion managed by the National Trust.
