Rail first arrived in the Dalmarnock district of Glasgow, contained within a loop of the River Clyde, back in the 1840s - the current station opened in 1895, replacing the earlier one. Trains to Dalmarnock travel on the Argyle Line, with regular westbound services to Milngavie and Dalmuir via Glasgow Central and eastbound services to Motherwell. Dalmarnock station is one of the closest stations to Celtic Park, home ground of Celtic Football Club, and as such can be quite busy on match days. The station’s futuristic entrance was the result of a major refurbishment in advance of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, held in Glasgow. Dalmarnock is the closest station to Commonwealth venues the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and the Emirates Arena, both of which host national and international sporting events throughout the year. The complex is a twelve-minute walk from the station, near Celtic Park.
The entrance on Dalmarnock Road leads to a concourse and ticket office. The concourse is linked to platform 2 (towards Motherwell) via steps and a lift. A bridge takes passengers across the tracks to platform 1 (towards Glasgow), where once again there is a lift for step-free access. Buses for the various sporting venues leave from just outside the main entrance on Dalmarnock Road.
