Cramlington railway station serves the small community of Cramlington just 20 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne in Northumberland. It was opened in the mid-19th century and, interestingly, during the General Strike in the mid ‘20s, an express train was derailed just south of the station during protests. The station was upgraded some years ago and the old brick buildings were demolished. Today, along with the trains that pass through, it is run and managed by Northern. Facilities at the station include two platforms with shelters, digital displays with passenger information, and a footbridge linking both sides of the tracks. There are no facilities here for buying tickets, so you will need to purchase them online before you travel or on board with the train conductor. Throughout the weekend peak hours, there is an hourly direct service to Newcastle taking just 17 minutes.
After disembarking at Cramlington, be sure to make a beeline for the Manor Walks Shopping Centre which is home to more than 100 high street stores, independent boutiques, and restaurants.
