Conway-park railway station is located in the heart of Birkenhead along the Wirral Line. It’s one of the UK’s newest stations having only opened in 1998 and is squeezed between the city’s 2 other major stations – Birkenhead Park and Hamilton Square. It’s an underground station that sits next to a 19th-century Mersey Railway tunnel. Being so new, it has its fair share of facilities including a booking office, toilets, digital displays showing timetable and passenger information, seating on both platforms, and wheelchair access via a lift. Next to the station, you’ll also find a Pay and Display car park and from 2015 secure bicycle storage and free WiFi was also added. It’s managed along with the trains by Merseyrail. There is a staggering eight direct trains an hour departing to Liverpool in just 8 minutes and four direct services an hour to West Kirby in 25 minutes, though both are halved outside of peak time.
You won’t be short on things to do in Birkenhead. When you step off the train, you could visit the iconic Birkenhead Town Hall, wander around the handsome 19th-century Hamilton Square, admire the works at the Williamson Art Gallery, or give you credit card a serious bruising at the 150-strong retail spaces at the Pyramids Shopping Centre.
