Cholsey train station lies in the heart of South Oxfordshire and serves the small community of Cholsey. It began operations in 1840 and was then known as Wallingford Road, though at that time the station was located further up the line near Goring. After considerable expansion to the lines, a new station was constructed at its current site in 1892 which is still in operation today. The station, which also services the heritage trains along the old Cholsey and Wallingford Railway, is run and managed by Great Western Railway. It’s a busy station with 5 platforms, though some are only used when the others are out of service. There are twice hourly direct trains to Reading in 19 minutes and several direct services throughout the day to Oxford in 30 minutes. Getting into London Paddington is a breeze and takes 1 hour 23 minutes direct or 53 minutes with a change.
Arriving in Cholsey puts you just a stone’s throw away from the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with chalk streams, beechwood forests and historical buildings. There are some fine walking trails, many of which can be started from Cholsey.
