Revamped in 1989 as part of the reopening of the Chase Line from Walsall to Hednesford, Cannock station serves the old market town of Cannock in Staffordshire. Services pass through the station between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley, with regular half-hourly services to Birmingham and Walsall.
Cannock station lies just to the south of Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Staffordshire, north of the West Midlands. The former mining town is now home to a busy town centre, with both indoor and outdoor markets, a large shopping centre and a sprawling high street boasting a varied selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants.
Cannock has a rich musical past, with members of world-famous bands such as Whitesnake, The Wildhearts, The Nightingales and Deep Purple having called the town home over the years.

The small unstaffed station is accessible from entrances on both Girton Road and Lichfield Road, which lead directly to platform 1 - and services toward Birmingham New Street. An additional entrance on Remington Drive leads to platform 2 and trains toward Rugeley - there is no way to cross the tracks once inside the station.
Both platforms are home to a small sheltered waiting area and a customer help point.
