Trains to Billericay travel on the Great Eastern Mainline between Southend Victoria and London's Liverpool Street, a route that first opened in 1889 and transformed a sleepy country settlement into the commuter town it is today. The town centre is a short walk to the south of the station, with the High Street being the focal point of activity, lined as it is with shops, restaurants and pubs.
Billericay is also blessed with a number of attractive green spaces. The closest to the station is Lake Meadows, with 40 acres of parkland and a fishing lake. Mill Meadows, to the south of the town centre, is an ancient meadow system with trail walks and lots of resident birdlife. Norsey Wood, a ten-minute walk from the station, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and can be explored by a network of nature trails between the ancient trees and wildflower meadows.
