Bellingham station, in the south London Borough of Lewisham, opened in 1892 on the Catford Loop, a suburban railway line linking central London with Kent. Trains to Bellingham still travel on this line today and include services from West Hampstead Thameslink via London St Pancras International, St Albans City, Luton, Bedford and Sevenoaks. In the evening and weekends, there are also services from Bellingham which terminate at London Blackfriars.
Travellers emerge from the station on to Randlesdown Road, opposite the leisure centre and sports fields. With its small selection of shops, a pub and a post office, the stretch of Randlesdown Road between the station and Bellingham Green is the high street of the area. The western edge of Bellingham is marked by the Pool River and the Waterlink Way, a twelve-mile walking and bicycling route along the riverbank, which links Sydenham in the south with the Thames in the north.
