Until the 1860s, Banstead was a sleepy village on the border of Surrey and Greater London. The building of the Epsom Downs branch line began its transformation into a commuter suburb, and today Banstead station has regular weekday and Saturday services to Epsom Downs and London Victoria via Norbury, and evening services to London Victoria running via Crystal Palace. Please note that there is no Sunday service to this station.
Banstead station is to the north of the town, bordering the Cuddington and Banstead Downs golf courses. The walk to Banstead High Street will take roughly fifteen minutes – an alternative is to take the bus, which reaches the town centre in under ten minutes. Bookended by large pubs, the long High Street has a few big names and a high proportion of independent local shops, cafes and restaurants. There’s plenty of wild green space in the area, including Banstead Common, a little way east of the station.
