Only a few miles south of Preston, Bamber Bridge train station serves its eponymous locale with regular service and management courtesy of Northern. Originally a bustling station designed for heavy train service, Bamber Bridge station fell victim to economic turmoils in the 1970s and grew quieter as a result. The original station building near the westbound platform survives but is privately owned and under development. Neither the waiting room on the eastbound platform nor the pedestrian underpass linking the platforms remains, although both platforms now have step-free access. Tickets may be purchased from the station's ticket machines.
Northern trains operate hourly trains from Bamber Bridge, westbound towards Preston and Blackpool South and eastbound towards Blackburn, Burnley, and Colne. On Sundays, this service slows to every two hours. During peak times, additional trains to and from Preston on the York & Leeds line call at the station, providing additional services for commuters and shoppers.
