Trains to Althorne (Essex)

Comfortably nestled into the village of Althorne, Althorne Railway Station provides connections across Essex for denizens of the area and passers-by alike. Located roughly a mile from the village centre, Althorne station sits on Greater Anglia's Crouch Valley Line between Wickford in the west and Southminster in the east. The line is single-track. One train from Althorne serves each direction every 40 minutes, with additional services at peak times. Some trains to Althorne continue to London Liverpool Street via the Great Eastern Main Line. Passengers for the Shenfield to Southend line can change at Wickford.

Althorne Railway Station was first opened in 1889, a small station with one platform and a nearby goods yard. There are no A-roads to Althorne, increasing demand for Althorne trains. Today, there is a station carpark available for passenger use, although present facilities do not include ticket machines or smartcard readers and tickets must be purchased onboard as a result. Customer service is available through the station help number from 08:00-20:00, Monday through Saturdays; on Sundays, help is available 10:00-20:00. Step-free access to the platform is available, and Bridgemarsh Marina, just off the River Crouch, is only short walk away.
