Aigburth train station is located in the residential suburb of Aigburth, south of Liverpool City Centre. Liverpool Central is a 9-minute train journey from Aigburth, and the seaside town of Southport can be reached in 56 minutes.

Opened in 1864, Aigburth station was originally part of the Garston and Liverpool Railway which linked Garston Cocks with the city. It closed in 1972 and reopened in 1978 as part of the Merseyrail system.

Aigburth train station has two platforms linked by a footbridge and steps; due to its location, it is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. The station is fully staffed during open hours and there are toilet facilities and sheltered seating available for passengers. Trains depart from Aigburth every 15 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays. Manchester is just over an hour away, and Birmingham is a journey of just under 2 hours.
