Southeast of Liverpool sits Action Bridge Railway Station, a historic station still in use by thousands of passengers travelling within Cheshire and beyond. The station was first opened in the 1830s as simply Acton, later merging with London and North Western Railway. Today the station services the West Coast Main Line. Along the Birmingham New Street-Liverpool Lime Street line, London Northwestern operates trains to Acton Bridge roughly ten times a day each direction, although service frequency varies. Many trains, including those to London and Scotland, pass through Acton Bridge station; passengers for London and Scotland can change at Crewe.

Although Action Bridge station is unstaffed, volunteer maintenance has won the station awards. The station is located near the River Weaver and Weaver Way, a new network of footpaths crossing the countryside, including around the historic Dutton Viaduct. Provisional Permit to Travel tickets may be obtained from a self-service machine in the ticket hall.
