About CAT - City Airport Train

City Airport Train, also called CAT, was founded in 2002 by Austria's state-owned railway company ÖBB in collaboration with Vienna Airport. The Express Train that connects Vienna Airport and Wien Mitte train station via a direct connection without any further stops on the way. The train does not only offer a fast and comfortable way to travel, it was also specifically designed to meet air passengers' needs.

 

Benefits of travelling with City Airport Train

CATs go directly from Vienna city centre to the airport. At both locations, the train has its own underground train station, so getting on and off the train and onto the airport terminal is really easy. Trains run every 30 minutes from the early morning hours uo until midnight; the journey only takes 16 minutes. Passengers can check in when boarding the train in Wien Mitte, which allows them to board their plane faster once they've arrived at the airport. The check-in desk at Wien Mitte is open 24 hours.

Wien Mitte train station is located in the city centre and can easily be reached from other parts of Vienna. S-Bahn (the suburban train) lines S1, S2, S3, S4 and S7 all stop at this station, as well as underground lines U3 and U4, tram line O and bus number 74A. There are several connections to and from Vienna main station for those who arrive in Austria's capital by train. Upon arrival at Wien Mitte, the check-in area can be found on the ground floor of the station, near the entrance to the shopping centre 'The Mall'.

CAT's double-deck carriages can carry up to 243 passengers at once and are equipped with comfortable seats, air conditioning, plenty of space for luggage, wifi, power outlets and an on-board information and entertainment system. At both train stations, passengers are free to take complementary magazines and newspapers that are available both in English and German. On board, members of the CAT crew are happy to assist with any questions passengers might have. 

Buying tickets for City Airport Train

Tickets for Vienna's CAT train can either be bought directly at Wien Mitte train station and Vienna Airport train station, or can be booked online in advance. Simply go to trainline.eu or download the Trainline app to get your City Airport Train ticket. Children under 15 travel for free when accompanied by an adult.
