90146 Palermo Italy
Francia station is one stop from the city of Palermo, on the line heading to Trapani, and is operated by Trenitalia. The station was opened in 1994 to increase the number of services available in the metropolitan area; it is currently closed due to the new railway bypass currently under construction and there is a bus service in Viale Francia that will take you to nearby stops in about five minutes. These are: Palermo Notarbartolo if you are headed for the town centre and San Lorenzo Colli if you wish to go to Alcamo or Trapani.
Francia station is an ideal starting point if you want to visit one of the most interesting areas of Palermo: you can easily reach the Parco della Favorita on foot - a large green space created in 1799 by Ferdinando III of the House of Bourbon, and still a favourite destination in Palermo if you are looking to take a stroll or relax. Don't miss the extravagant Chinese Palace, the Ethnographic Museum and the elegant Niscemi Villa. Just a short distance away you will find the area of Monte Pellegrino (a nature reserve since 1996), where you can climb up to the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia or explore the striking Caves at Addaura. And for beach lovers, the famous beach of Mondello is just a short distance away.
