Düsseldorf Airport Train Station

The station opened in 2000 and is located on the Cologne to Duisburg railway line. Passengers, whether arriving or departing from Düsseldorf Airport, can catch one of the 350 daily trains either on the ICE (intercity express trains) or S-Bahn (urban train).

Together with the S-Bahn station aptly named “Düsseldorf Airport Terminal”, rail provides the ideal transport link for all holidaymakers who fly from Düsseldorf to worldwide destinations or start their holiday in Düsseldorf, the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Geographically the train station is in the north of Düsseldorf and is connected to the neighbouring city of Ratingen, which by train is only 15 minutes away. There is a total of four lines at the station, two of these are typically used by the high-speed services allowing them quick transit through the area. Berlin, Munich, Leipzig and Basel are just some of the daily long-haul destinations Düsseldorf Airport reaches out to.

Getting to the heart of Düsseldorf with one of the long-distance trains, a regional train or the S1 takes around 5 minutes. For some international travellers from here, a train journey from Düsseldorf to Paris takes less than four hours.

If you’re looking for some last-minute souvenirs of your trip or forget to pack something, there are plenty of shops for you to browse. If you have some time, you could visit the magical Japanese garden which thanks to the good bus and metro connections are within 30 minutes of the airport. The "Japanese Garden on the Rhine" is a gift from the Japanese Association of Düsseldorf and adorns the north-western part of the North Park. A trip into the world of the knights and Burgfräulein is also possible near the station. After a half-hour bus ride, you could be in the historic Kaiserswerth district, where the imposing ruins of the Kaiserpfalz await you. Emperor Henry III was already residing here, and Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa further developed the Burganlage according to his wishes. The visit is particularly suitable for those who are interested in history. After a tour through the walls, it is recommended to end the evening in a beer garden or café with a romantic view of the Rhine as your backdrop.
