Getting from the train station to Scarborough beach
It takes around 11-minutes to reach Scarborough beach on foot from the train station. Turn right out of the station onto Westborough, then take another right into Vernon Road. Keep walking until you see the roundabout, take a left, then keep walking until you see the beach.
Visiting Scarborough
Scarborough, the first seaside resort in the world, also live on. Completed in 1867, Scarborough’s Grand Hotel, one of the first purpose-built hotels in the world, still stands proudly overlooking South Bay, and the Crown Hotel, twenty years older than the Grand and once the place to be for Victorian society, is again one of the best hotels to stay at in Scarborough.
From the town, it’s just a short trot to the shore, and while the donkey rides and naughty postcards may be long gone, the award-winning beaches are an absolute pleasure, all with Scarborough Castle on the point in sight. And where the original Victorian baths once stood, there’s now a world-class conference and entertainment centre and an artists’ space.
For more culture, head to the Rotunda Museum – an institute dedicated to the coastal geology and dinosaur fossils found in Yorkshire. Established by the Father of English Geology, William Smith, who lived in Scarborough in the 1800s, this is a museum that will inspire and educate with interactive displays and remnants of Smith’s original Victorian collection.
