About the Victoria and Albert Museum

Also known as the V&A, The Victoria and Albert Museum is one of a famous group of museums in South Kensington, including the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. Founded in 1852, the V&A has been in its current location since 1909 and sprawls across 13 acres and 145 galleries, featuring 5,000 years worth of art and design. The exhibits are divided into four main sections: Asia; Furniture, Textiles and Fashion; Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics and Glass; and Word and Image. Due to the museum's size, many visitors come back more than once - if it's your first time, we suggest focusing on one area of interest rather than trying to see everything. Whatever you choose to focus on, you're guaranteed at least one knock-out display.

For instance, Ceramics and Glass has a collection of over 80,000 objects, including stained glass from the 12th century; and in the Jewellery Gallery, you'll find diamonds worn by Marie Antoinette and Catherine the Great. You'll also find a Persian gold enameled dagger and a 10th Egyptian keepsake box carved from a block of crystal. With regular themed late openings and an eye-popping ornate cafe too, the V&A is simply one of London's best cultural days out.
