Reaching The National Stud from the train station is easy with a short taxi ride and it is well worth a visit to take in one of the daily tours around at the only commercial stud in the UK open to the public. Guided tours of the stud are run by Discover Newmarket and are a fantastic way of learning more about what goes on behind the scenes of a busy commercial stud farm. Depending on the season and daily activities on the Stud, visitors can expect to see mares with their young foals in the paddocks, yearlings, and stallions. All in the truly beautiful grounds of The National Stud. On your guided tour you will also hear about the history behind the Stud, and an overview of the work that goes into producing the future champions of the turf. When the tour is finished you can view the work of resident artist Chris Winch and enjoy a selection of teas, coffees, cakes, breakfast and light lunches in the Wavertree’s Coffee Shop.
Visit the National Stud's website for opening information.
