Trains to Richmond Park
If you're taking the train to Richmond Park, it helps to know which part want to visit. For the north side - home to historic Pembroke Lodge - Richmond is better. For the south side - home to the Isabella Plantation - head to Kingston or Norbiton. There are regular direct trains to both Richmond and Kingston from London Waterloo. Local buses will take you to the park, but from Richmond consider the walk up Richmond Terrace, with fine views over the Thames.

About Richmond Park
Richmond Park in southwest London is the city's largest green space, boasting 2,500 acres of heathland and woodland, lakes and hills. With its mix of ancient trees, wide open spaces, free-roaming wildlife and carefully planted gardens, the park one of is the most relaxing in Greater London. It was originally created by Charles I in the 17th century as a place to store his deer, and you can still see some 650 Red and Fallow deer in the park today.
And Richmond Park doesn't just look good; it's a great place for family fun and outdoor activity too. Head there on a weekend morning and you'll find countless happy runners and cyclists enjoying the park, plus equally happy children enjoying the playgrounds at Kingston and Petersham gates.
There is also fishing on offer at the Pen Ponds. It's also home to a couple of historic buildings: the former royal residence and Grade I-listed White Lodge, now home to the Royal Ballet School, and the Georgian Pembroke Lodge, the one-time residence of 19th-century British Prime Minister Lord John Russell. The latter is now home to a busy cafe, and the views from the rear garden make it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat.
