It’s easy to travel to the East Lancashire Railway by train. The nearest major railway station is Manchester Piccadilly, which is served by Avanti West Coast services from London Euston, Northern services from Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield, plus Transport for Wales services from Cardiff Central. From Manchester Piccadilly, hop on the Metrolink Yellow Line towards Bury – the tram stop is housed within the train station. Running every six minutes, you’ll reach Bury Interchange (the final stop on the line) in just over half an hour.

From the interchange, head north up Haymarket Street. At the mini-roundabout, turn left on to Bolton Street and after a minute’s walk you’ll see Bury Bolton Street station on your left-hand side.

Bury Bolton Street is the spiritual home of the East Lancashire Railway, having served as its headquarters when the railway was operational. A ride on this fantastic heritage railway is a must for any railway buff, providing fascinating insights into North West’s industrial past.
